Solar Geyser Control Unit (SGCU) without Backup Power

Price range: R3177.00 through R4177.00

The Energy Sense Solar Geyser Control Unit (SGCU) is a smart controller for solar geyser systems that use a solar collector and 12V DC circulation pump.

The SGCU monitors both the solar collector temperature and the geyser water temperature. When useful solar heat is available, it activates the circulation pump to move heated water into the geyser. This helps increase geyser temperature using solar energy and reduces unnecessary electric geyser heating.

This version does not include the backup solar panel and battery. The SGCU and pump will therefore only operate when normal power is available.

The SGCU connects to WiFi and gives you app-based control, temperature monitoring, schedules, alerts and geyser behaviour logging.

Key features:

  • Controls the 12V DC solar circulation pump
  • Monitors geyser and solar collector temperature
  • Helps maximise solar water heating
  • Reduces unnecessary electric geyser heating
  • Supports schedules, day/night temperature settings and holiday mode
  • Provides remote monitoring and control through the Energy Sense app
  • Measures, analyses and logs geyser behaviour

INSTALLATION NOTE: Installation is excluded from the standard price advertised for this unit. To include installation select your town for installation + Unit price from the “Kit Option” dropdown menu.
PRICING NOTE: All Energy Sense Control Units are available on affordable monthly subscriptions. Please get in touch with our sales team (info@energysense.co.za) for assistance with subscription options.

Solar Geyser Control Unit (SGCU) without Backup Power Features

The Energy Sense Solar Geyser Control Unit (SGCU) is designed for solar geyser systems that use a solar collector and a 12V DC circulation pump.

The SGCU helps manage solar water heating by measuring the temperature of the solar collector and the geyser water. When the collector is hotter than the geyser by a useful margin, the SGCU switches the circulation pump on. This moves heated water from the collector into the geyser and gradually increases the geyser temperature using solar energy.

When the collector cools down, or when circulation would no longer add useful heat, the SGCU switches the pump off. This helps prevent unnecessary pump operation and reduces heat loss.

This product is the SGCU without backup power version. It does not include the additional solar panel and battery backup kit. During a power failure or load shedding, the SGCU and circulation pump will not operate unless backup power is supplied separately.

Main features

  • WiFi-enabled smart solar geyser controller
  • Mobile app access on iOS and Android
  • Web-based monitoring and control
  • Remote geyser control from anywhere
  • Geyser water temperature monitoring
  • Solar collector temperature monitoring
  • 12V DC circulation pump control
  • 12V DC 1.6A pump control
  • Up to 230VAC 5000W heating element control, where applicable
  • Multiple schedules to optimise geyser operation
  • Day and night temperature settings
  • Holiday mode
  • Push and email notifications
  • Usage monitoring and geyser behaviour logging
  • Safety and abnormal behaviour alerts
  • Collector equilibrium control
  • Collector offset temperature control
  • Helps reduce overall geyser electricity usage

Best suited for

  • Solar geyser retrofit systems
  • Conventional geysers connected to a solar collector
  • Systems with a 12V DC solar circulation pump
  • Homes wanting to reduce electric geyser heating
  • Users who want app-based geyser monitoring and control
  • Installations where normal power is available for the controller and pump

Important note

This SGCU version does not include backup power. If you want the solar circulation pump to keep running during load shedding or power failures, please select the SGCU version with backup solar panel and battery, or contact Energy Sense for assistance.

Installation

The SGCU must be installed by a qualified installer or electrician familiar with geyser wiring, pump control and solar water heating systems. Installation is excluded from the standard online price unless selected from the available kit or installation options.
